Susanne Hahn and Arne Gabius take German 10K road running titles

Around 6.000 visitors wanted to see the German Road Running Championships that took place on a flat 2k-loop in Otterndorf. The races had a great atmospere because they were started in the evening hours on 12th of September.

Mens race:
In the mens race Arne Gabius took the National title as expected. With his victory he demonstrated that he is one of the fastest distance runners in Germany. However, Gabius the race was decided on the last 200 meters, with Arne Gabius, Sebastian Hallmann and Filmon Ghirmai running together for the most part of the race. In the final sprint, Gabius could had the strongest kick and finished with a time of 29:16. Only three seconds later Sebastian Hallmann (29:19) crossed the line, outkicking Filmon Ghirmai (29:20). The trio was challenged for the first five kilometers by the first Junior, Philipp Pflieger, who eventually took 4tth place overall in a fine 29:35min.

Womens race:
After Sabrina Mockenhaupt withdrew from the German Championships to prepare for a halfmarathon one week later, the way was free for Susanne Hahn. For Hahn it was the first national title in the 10K. After placing 34th in the 2009 IAAF World Championships Marathon, Hahn was unchallenged and stormed to victory with a time of 33:43. Luminita Zaituc, who did not finish the World Championships Marathon, was overtaken by eventual silver medalist Ingalena Heuck (34:00). Zaituc could only hold on for 3rd place in 34:08min.
