The German U23-teams were head and shoulders above the Swiss Team in the U23-Cross-Team-Challenge last Saturday (16.01.2010) in Lausanne/SUI.
The womens race (6K) was dominated by the 20-year old Anna Hahner (22:59 min). On the deep course she soon left her opponents behind and had a comfortable 35 seconds lead in the finish. Mareike Schrulle (23:34 min) secured the double victory and underlined that her 13th place in the U23-race of the European Cross-Country Championships was no coincidence. Maren Kock (24:47 min) and Ulla Gatzweiler (25:25 min) completed the German team with 8th and 11th place.
The fastest men on the 8K-distance were also Germans. Musa Roba-Kinkal (27:15 min), 9th place finisher in the U23-division of the European Cross Country Championships 2009, was 8 seconds faster than Alexander Hahn (27:23 min). The 20-year old Hahn had to miss the European Championships last december due to illness but seems to be back in shape. Also the other German participants could satisfy the German coaches with Fynn Schwiegelsohn (27:41 min) in 7th and Florian Pehrs (27:58 min) in 10th.

German steeple chase record holder (9:18,54 min) Antje Möldner is not competing in this years indoor season due to illness.
The 25-year old was supposed to open her indoor season last weekend but her coach Beate Conrad reported that she is not going to participate in the weekends 1.500m race and that the indoor season is over for her, before it even started. Möldner was in a 10-day training camp in Spain with several German top athletes at the beginning of 2010.
Möldner is now planning to get healthy and to be ready for an altitude training camp in Flagstaff/USA at the beginning of March.

The German elite race walker Melanie Seeger competed last Saturday (16.01.2010) in Berlin. For her it was the first competition after giving birth to a daughter last summer.
The 33-year old won the 3.000m race walk event in a time of 13:21,59 min. Even if this time is pretty far under her previous level, it shows that she is progressing in her comeback-plans. In the German Indoor Championships (27./28.02 in Karlsruhe) Seeger will face stronger opponents than in Berlin, where Christin Elß took second in 14:06,53 min. The aim for the young mother will be the European Championships in Barcelona this year.
Also on the mens side, two race walkers with chances to reach the European Championships competed in Berlin. Christopher Linke, previously 4th place in U23-European Championships won the 5.000m race in 19:58,91 min with Carsten Schmidt (20:13,50 min) in second.
